Graduation Requirements

  • General University Requirements (GUR) 60 credits approximately


  • Major  55-149 credits


  • Electives  0-70 credits


  • 60 credits upper division study – 300 and 400 level classes


  • Writing Proficiency  3-5 credits


  • Cumulative WWU GPA of 2.0 or greater


  • 180 minimum total of credits

Math Placement Test
  • Must first take the Math Placement Test if a math course for major or GUR is needed

General University Requirements (GUR)
  • Humanities
      • 12 credits minimum.  Complete 3 or more courses from at least two departments from list

  • Social Sciences
      • 12 credits minimum.  Complete 3 or more courses from at least two departments from list

  • Comparative, Gender and Multicultural Studies
      • One course from Block A AND one from Block B


  • Natural Sciences
      • Three courses
      • At least two lab science courses (LSCI)

 Registration Phases
    • Phase I – limited to 17 credits, some departments restrict classes to majors only
    • Phase II – credit limit lifted and most departments lift course restriction for major.  Students can continue schedule changes
    • Phase III is first week of classes. Schedule changes continue
    • Phase IV – Weeks 2 through 7 drop classes only

What to do when a class is closed
  • Keep checking ClassFinder
  • Attend class first day and talk with professor
  • Talk with professor and request an override
  • Get on waiting list (check with the instructor and department)

Withdrawing From a Course
  • Week 1 & 2 – unlimited number of course withdrawals


  • Week 2 – Incur a “XM” on unofficial transcript


  • Week 3 through 7 – must use an Annual Course Withdrawal privilege. A “W” is posted on official transcript

Annual Course Withdrawal Privilege
  • Each student is granted two annual withdrawal privileges at start of each fall quarter


  • Withdrawing from a course between the third and seventh week requires using an annual withdrawal privilege

Caution:
  • Your GPA does not transfer from previous school(s)
  • Your GPA may drop during the first quarter while you make social and academic adjustments
  • You might have to make other adjustments:
    • Balancing work
    • Managing family obligations
    • Building a support network
