Major - Special Education
Hometown - Edgewood, WA

I am a determined, passionate person, and I work hard for things I want. Education is extremely important to me, which is why I plan on becoming a special education teacher. Community service and doing things that will help me achieve my goals are things I take pride in. I learned this from my mother, who achieved her BA from Western.

“…this scholarship will be used to help me not only attain my goals, but also in turn to help all of the special needs children I plan on educating in my teaching career.”

This scholarship has made an incredible impact on my life because I am the oldest of three girls, who all plan to go to college. My parents didn’t really save up for our college as we were growing up, so we need all the help we can get.

I love the outdoors! This is why Western is a perfect match for me. I spend my weekends camping and hiking…

When I was fourteen, I took my first plane ride to San Antonio, Texas, where I spent a week volunteering my time as a camp counselor for kids with disabilities. This experience has forever changed my life, and has led up to my decision to become a special education teacher.
