“Bellingham and Western have collided beautifully to help me on my path towards writing, film-making and entrepreneurship.”

No matter what community, situation, or project I'm associated with, I always choose to be involved. Actually, it's not really a choice so much as it's a manner of existing. If I am not playing an active role in any apect of my life, I feel like I'm cheating myself out of experiences I have no valid reason to ignore. Perhaps this mentality is part of why I have been given this scholarship, and I am thankful to have recieved such support for staying true to my principles. It lets me know that there are more people in the world that share the same positivity for the future as I do and that they, too, want to take an active role in shaping it.

This scholarship has taken a weight off my back financially and allowed me to put more of my energy into studying instead of into job searching. It has affirmed my identity as a leader, which I feel is a large part of who I am and how I interact with others. This scholarship reminds me of what I've done to help others both in and outside of Western, and gives me encouragement to pursue even more ways to be involved in whatever community I find myself a part of in the future.

I write, read, watch movies and make movies.

Being an RA in Fairhaven this year has shaped me in so many ways that I'm sure it will take years for me to notice them all. My idea of a leader has changed from being someone who has ideas and finds ways to impliment them, to someone who seeks genuine connections with others and leads WITH those who I would have once called followers.
