“I have enjoyed every minute at Western; it's been a privilege to attend such an amazing school full of bright minds ready to change the world.”

I love my family, which is why I have chosen to remain in my hometown while attending university. I also love Western! My first year here has been a very great one. It’s had its ups and downs, as I am a perfectionist and have striven to maintain a 4.0 all year. I have noticed how extremely tough that is, but I was up to the challenge. I also have met some awesome people throughout my classes as well as living in Nash Hall. I am now an official Young Life Leader for Squalicum High School, so I am going to be giving back to this community that has given me so much.

I have been very privileged to receive this scholarship, and it will help me so much next year. I won't have to work as much to pay for tuition, and that is one of the best gifts you can give a hard-working college student! I also realize now how helpful scholarships can be, so when I'm older and (hopefully) successful, I will be able to give back to students who are in the exact same situation I am in now.

I love to read and write, anything from short stories to songs. I really enjoy meeting new people and forming strong, genuine relationships with others. Spring is one of my favorite seasons because it means it’s hiking time again, and Bellingham offers some pretty amazing hiking spots.

An experience that has had a huge impact on me was my Mother being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. It is an awful, incurable disease that can lead to very serious physical issues. The drugs she is on to prevent crippling and extreme joint pain have deadly side effects. I couldn't believe it when she was diagnosed because nothing that serious had ever happened to our family before. This continuing experience has helped to me realize how very important family is, and how quickly it can be taken away. It has helped me to realize that life is so very short, and spending time with loved ones is one of the most important things. I would just like to give a big thank you to the Alumni Association for putting together this scholarship and to the Alumni who give to it.
