“Almost as soon as I stepped foot onto Western's campus, I knew this was the place I wanted to spend the next four years of my life.  The friendly atmosphere, involved student body, and dedicated faculty and staff have continued to inspire me throughout my time here.”

From the moment I stepped foot onto Western's campus, I have been an active student and community member. I have held numerous job positions – through Dining Services, New Student Services/Family Outreach, Student Admissions Representative, Challenge Course facilitator at Lakewood, as well as the Alumni Association. I have also volunteered at Woodway Senior Living, Sea Mar Visions, Relay for Life and at many other campus events. I have also participated in many campus events including Back2Bellingham, Western Preview, Western Fall Welcome and many others. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a Western student and feel very thankful for all of the opportunities that have come my way.

This scholarship has not only provided me with inspiration to further achieve my goals, but is also a tremendous help for funding my education. With the help of my mother and through my continued work through on-campus positions, it has been difficult to fund my education. Your philanthropic gesture goes a long way in supporting me. This scholarship is a huge blessing for me and my mother. Receiving this scholarship has showed me how there are many individuals that want to help students succeed with their education and life goals. I thank you for giving me this opportunity once again, it helps in more ways than I can ever express.

I absolutely love being in nature. I enjoy camping, backpacking, hiking, running, biking, yoga, basketball and many other exercise-related activities. I have found Bellingham to be an outdoor lover’s paradise! I also enjoy reading, cooking, baking and spending time with great friends and family (including my adorable nephews and soon-to-be niece).

One of my favorite quotes is, “Bloom where you are planted.” This is what I have strived for not only in myself but also what I try and encourage with all of the potential and current students I encounter. I want students to know that there is a place for them to grow and prosper here at Western and that there are dedicated faculty, staff, and a large community that is ready to encourage and support them through their journey at Western (like individuals on this scholarship committee). This is the feeling that I received when I first came to Western’s campus and was greeted by current students. I can only hope that I am able to give back half of what has been given to me by serving and honoring Western in the ways that I do.
