“This fall I will be attending a program in  Thailand, which will allow me to experience a new culture while continuing to take courses that are relevant for my majors and minors.”

I am originally from a small town in Illinois, and I made the decision to go to Western to follow my dream of becoming a Marine Biologist. Although the transition was intimidating at first, I love being at Western and being involved in the community. I am currently working two different on-campus jobs, volunteering in a research lab, and volunteering at the Whatcom Humane society. I intend to continue with these activities until I graduate in the spring.

This scholarship has allowed me to pursue my passion of travel and I am able to study abroad in Thailand. Without the generous donors I would not be able to afford this opportunity, and I would have to stay on campus and work.

I think that it is incredibly important to continue challenging myself and trying things that push me out of my comfort zone. For me, traveling is one of the best ways to try new things and experience another culture. It is my hope to be able to experience as much of the world that I can, and continue to grow as I challenge myself.

I love to hike and explore and spend time with my friends. I also work on campus, and volunteer at a research lab and at the Whatcom Humane Society.
