Major - Fairhaven: Law, Diversity and Justice
Hometown - Bellingham, WA
“This scholarship is helping me to accomplish my dream of becoming a human rights lawyer, so that one day I may be able to help struggling students on their journeys.”
This year has been very difficult for me and my family; my parents have spent nearly all of their savings on my tuition in the last year. I applied for this scholarship based on my need to reduce the financial burden of my family and my desire to continue the journey of a rewarding education.
This scholarship has substantially reduced my family's and my stress for one quarter. It has helped me to focus more on my academics and has provided me with a way for my work hours to cover my rent instead of going primarily toward tuition. I am very grateful for this opportunity and to the generous donors who made it possible.
Growing up in a hard-working family has embedded in me the values of dedication and generosity. I have spent my life trying to make my family proud of me and all I become, and I am happy to say that they are. I have worked very hard at school and pursued my dreams with passion and kindness. Continuing my studies will result in a Bachelor of Arts in a concentration I have created with the guidance of my faculty mentors. In addition, partially because of this scholarship, I will be able to study abroad in Ghana in order to satisfy my major’s international human rights requirement.
On my free time I enjoy practicing yoga, riding my bike and rock climbing. I love spending time with my close friends, making tacos and drinking a glass of wine while we talk about our US Mexico border projects and our scholarship proposal for undocumented students. I have a great community in Bellingham, and love to crack jokes and listen to live music with my homies.
