Research Interests
McDowall studies inverse problems in partial differential equations, in which one seeks to determine material properties of a medium from remote or boundary measurements. His recent areas of interest include optical tomography and transport theory in media with varying indices of refraction modeled by Riemannian metrics, and inverse problems in electrodynamics, including the mathematics of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He is also working on modeling light transport in solar concentrators.
