$138,500 with matching funds of $150,000 from WWU to develop an interdisciplinary microscopy center in the environmental studies building. Funds from this grant plus funds from two National Science Foundation grants, AMSEC is purchasing a tunable laser which will be used for further interdisciplinary research such as the development of luminescent solar concentrators for efficient, inexpensive renewable energy, as well as a range of studies of wavelength-dependent optical properties of materials. The grant is for equipment and student summer stipends in materials science research. As a result of this award, AMSEC has provided interdisciplinary research teams with summer student stipends each summer since 2011.
Summer 2011
Five interdisciplinary research teams were awarded eight student stipends and one team was award supplies. The team decriptions are as follows:
