Miller Analogies Test
The MAT is a high level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 partial analogies that are completed in 60 minutes. The MAT is intended to measure the ability to recognize relationships between ideas, fluency in the English language, and general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. There is no foreign-language edition of the MAT. Dictionaries or any other reference aides are not permitted when taking the MAT.
Taking the MAT
After you take the MAT, you will receive your personal Score Report two to three weeks from the date that Harcourt Assessment receives your test. Your personal Score Reports will provide you with the scaled score and percentile ranks you received on the MAT. The MAT scaled scores currently range from 200 to 600 with a mean (average) of 400. The percentile ranks on your personal Score Report indicate the percentage of examinees in the norm group (2003 Norms) who received a scaled score lower than yours. Percentile rank ranges from 1 to 99. Your personal Score Report also includes a listing of the recipient schools you chose to receive your scores.
The Miller Analogies site contains the most current and complete information about the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). It includes information about applying to take the test, the contents of the test, and what happens after you have taken the test. The website also includes strategies for solving analogies, sample items, and a practice test to help test-takers prepare for the MAT.
