The AUAP provides opportunities for students to experience American life
and culture through a variety of program-wide activities. The Community Friends Program
is one way for AUAP students to
interact with Americans.
Community Friends Program
Students who participate in the program meet Community Friends through our Community Friends Gathering held at the
beginning of each five month cycle (usually in October and March).
They are matched with families in the Bellingham community.
Each student who participates in the program will go to the American’s home
at least once during the cycle for a ‘home visit’ which might include
dinner and an evening spent together in the home.
Many students visit their community friend’s home more than once.
This is a great way to learn about American family life and share some elements of
Japanese culture with a family.
The Community Friends Program is an optional activity that will leave
AUAP students with many pleasant memories.
If you would like to volunteer as a Community Friend or would like further
information about the program, please contact the Campus / Community
Friends Coordinator at (360)650-6240.
