Resident Advisors (RAs) are available to help you with any questions or
problems you have associated with living in the residence halls. They
have been specially trained to make your residence hall an interesting
and safe place to live. They will check you in and out of the residence
hall and help you with any maintenance problems. They also plan regular
activities for all of their residents which include parties, meetings,
guest speakers, recreational sports, arts and crafts, and workshops.
Activities will be announced at hall meetings or posted in the main
lobbies. You must sign up for activities by deadlines, and sometimes a
small fee is charged for all hall residents that participate. If you get
involved in these activities, you will have a better chance of getting to
know the people who live around you.
Another job of the RA is to enforce the rules of the Residence Hall. Any
student who breaks the rules will be written up in what is called an
"incident report". If this happens to you, you will normally be required
to meet with the Resident Director (RD). It is the responsibility of the
RD to give you consequences for breaking the rules. He/She may, for
example, ask you to write a paper explaining how breaking the rules
effects others who live around you. If you are assigned consequences for
breaking a rule, please be sure to carry them out quickly.
