    Boulevard Park
    A landmark for locals and visitors alike, Boulevard Park is a haven for Western students, retirees, musicians, couples, and more.  Grab a cup of coffee from The Woods Coffee right in the heart of the park.

     

    Clayton Beach
    Clayton Beach is part of Larrabee State Park, found just outside Bellingham along Chuckanut Drive, one of the prettiest drives in the area. It is a fairly rocky beach - a wonderful place to rock climb and study wild mussels, barnacles and baby crabs. At high tide, the sandy beach area is relatively small; this is a beach that is more enjoyable at lower tide levels, so check the tide tables before you set off.

     

    Fragrance Lake
    A steady 1.8 miles uphill through cool, shady forest and ferns. Take the short, easy side route early on for a stunning panoramic view of the San Juans. The trail goes around the lake with a few clearings and handmade benches here and there, perfect for a picnic by the clear water.

     

    Interurban Trail
    It’s like Route 66 for joggers. This 6-mile trail winds through wetlands and evergreens, presenting extraordinary views along the way.

    Larrabee State Park
    Larrabee State Park is a 2,683-acre camping park with 8,100 feet of saltwater shoreline on Samish Bay near Bellingham in northwest Washington. The park features two freshwater lakes, coves and tidelands. Sunsets here are gorgeous. A variety of non-motorized, multiple-use trails wind through the park.

    One of the best spots to watch a sunset in Bellingham, this small park with a sandy beach is perfect for a quiet getaway tucked behind the Fairhaven Shipyards.

     

    Maritime Heritage Park
    The closest natural park to downtown Bellingham, Maritime Heritage Park follows Whatcom Creek into Bellingham Bay.  A salmon hatchery, waterfalls, open space, an amphitheater, and plenty of trails make this a great getaway in the middle of the city.

    Sehome Hill

    Not only the location of many “first kisses” for Western students over the years, Sehome Hill is a naturally wooded arboretum jointly managed by both the city and the university.  The park offers over five miles of public trails to explore in addition to an 80-foot wooden observation tower which provides views of Bellingham Bay.
