Viking Band Basic Info (2009-2010)
Dear Viking Band,
Congratulations on joining the newest and most exciting student group at WWU. After just two year in existence, the Viking Band has already become one of the largest and most visible student groups on campus. The Music Department at WWU welcomes you into our program and looks forward to collaborating on years of music-making.
This page is intended to answer some of the basic questions you might have regarding policies and procedures related to the Viking Band and the WWU Music Department.
Rehearsals
The Viking Band rehearses Thursday nights from 6:00-8:00PM during Fall Quarter. Drumline has a separate additional sectional on Wednesday nights from 6:00-8:00PM. All rehearsals are in the PAC Music Building.
Instruments
The Viking Band owns mellophones, baritones, sousaphones and all drum-line equipment. All other instruments must be provided by the student.
Contact Chandler Fry for equipment questions.
Music
The Viking Band will provide you with all of the music that you need. Click here for a list of music performed during the 2008-2009 school year. Some changes and additions will be made to this repertoire throughout the 2009-2010 school year.
If you have your own music lyre and/or flip folder, you will need it.
Uniforms
You will be issued a Viking Band Shirt.
Members will need to purchase a pair of regular khaki-pants prior to arriving on campus, if they do not already own them. Not super-baggy skateboard khaki-pants with 25 pockets and zippers. . .but normal GAP style khakis.
Fee - There is a $20.00 activity fee to participate in Viking Band. This goes to off-set some of the costs of non-renewable items which you get to keep at the end of the season. This can be paid by check at the first rehearsal of mini-camp. Please make checks payable to "WWU Music".
Other Ensembles
There are many performing opportunities on campus here at Western. If interested, please consider also participating in any of our other ensembles, like the Symphonic Band (Mus 272), or one of our Jazz ensembles. Please contact us if you have any questions.
