The Wind Symphony, a select group of Western Washington University's finest musicians, performs literature from the standard wind band repertoire as well as music from some of today's best living composers. This season includes a new transcription of “Ara Batur,” the 2008 hit from Icelandic band Sigur Ros in addition to traditional works by J.S. Bach, American composer Frank Ticheli, and Morton Gould.
The Wind Symphony performs in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall, a state-of-the-art, acoustically thrilling hall seating 645 patrons. Between 2006-2010, under the direction of Christopher Bianco (currently Department Chair), the Western Wind Symphony embarked on an ambitious touring schedule that will brought the Wind Symphony to every region of Washington state.
