About the BPII

Western Washington University is currently using Ellucian's Banner system as the official record of Financial, Student, Payroll, Human Resources and Advancement data. In 1991, Western served as a beta (test) site for implementation of the Banner Finance module without the advice of a Banner consultant. This resulted in a Chart of Accounts structure that did not support the full functionality of the Banner Budget Development module.

In 2010, the BPII implementation team addressed the Chart of Accounts revision, eliminated 14xxx funds and combined them into fund 10200, paving the path for the completion of Banner Budget Development and Salary Planner modules that followed.

The BPII Charter was A hand drawing a flow chartamended in May 2011 to address a broader range of business processes. This amendment included the formation of a new BPII Steering Committee, co-chaired by Rich Van Dan Hul, Vice President, BFA and John Lawson, Vice Provost for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer. Wanna VanCuren was also appointed as the overall Project Portfolio Manager. Later, Brian Sullivan, Assistant Vice President of BFA, would take over for Rich Van Den Hul as co-chair of the Steering Committee.

The objective of the BPII Charter is to achieve best-in-class status in conducting the business operations and achieving the objectives of Western Washington University. The Charter includes a number of processes that warrant a complete review or business process analysis (BPA) in order to determine how the Banner system can be more efficiently and effectively utilized, as well as how our cross-department/divisional processes can be optimized.

The Banner modules and associated business processes within this Charter are HRIS, Purchasing, Travel & Expenses, Grant, General Ledger, Fixed Asset, Sequoia (Bookstore), Parking (T2 System/CashNet), AiM and any other external data sources that department and divisions are currently using.

To ensure thorough analysis and successful implementation, the team has divided these initiatives into three phases. Details of the three phases are detailed in the Charter, available via the link on the left side of your screen.
