Advising
Welcome to the Biology department at Western Washington University.

Nancy Kirchgatter,
Biology Undergraduate
Program Coordinator
There are two steps, or phases, to admission into the Biology BS, BA or Minor degree program.
All students who declare a Biology major are assigned a Biology faculty advisor and are added to the email listserve. This is known as Phase I. During Phase I students will be in the process of completing the introductory Biology and Chemistry courses.
Admission to Phase II is competitive and is based on performance in the introductory courses. See Declaring a Major in Biology (pdf) and your faculty advisor, for more information. If you have not yet received a faculty advisor, please see Biology Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Nancy Kirchgatter, who will be happy to assist you.
Please browse through the FAQ page for answers to questions about transferring classes from another institution, registration, major declaration, and much more.
