Research Interests
Behavior and ecology of marine mammals and seabirds, and their role in the design and implementation of marine protected areas.
In my lab, we attempt to describe the abundance, movements and foraging habits of harbor seals in the San Juan Islands to assess their potential impact on rockfish populations. To accomplish this, in conjunction with our collaborators, we count seals from the air, collect seal poop to see what they eat, put tags on seals to follow their movements via satellite, and count rockfish underwater
About Me
I am an Associate Professor in Biology and Science Education at Western Washington University. Originally from Mexico City, I have found my second home in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Lisa and our dog Koura. I love playing soccer and the guitar, and a good hike in a remote place
