November 12, 2009. Lecture No. 1: Margaret Stock, J.D., and Edward Alden
Ms. Stock is a Visiting Fellow at the BPRI, and Mr. Alden is a Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. They presented a seminar titled "Immigration Reform: What's at Stake for the Northern Border." A video recording of the event will be posted here soon.

February 24, 2009. The BPRI co-hosted a conference at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.,titled "Border Challenges and Regional Solutions: 2010 Olympics and the Pacific Northwest Experience." Also hosting the conference were the Canada Institute at Woodrow Wilson, the Canadian Embassy, and PNWER (the Pacific Northwest Economic Region). January 12, 2009. The BPRI was co-host of a conference at San Diego State University titled "North American Perspectives on Borders and Security: Developing a Policy Narrative." Also hosting the conference were ACSUS (the Association for Canadian Studies in the U.S.) and NACTS (the North American Center for Transborder Studies). January 12 - 15, 2008. The BPRI was co-host of the BRIT IX Conference with the University of Victoria. The conference theme was "North American and European Border Regions in Comparative Perspective: Markets, States, and Border Communities." Download the agenda with accompanying abstracts.
February 15, 2007. The BPRI hosted a conference titled "Fostering Mobility at the BC/WA Border: Perimeter Clearance, WHTI, and Real ID." The conference benefitted stakeholders involved in a formal effort by the governments of B.C. and Washington State to promote the use of driving licenses as an acceptable form of ID for the purpose of crossing the border. March 24, 2006. The BPRI hosted a "Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative Roundtable." A group of invited panelists from Washington State and Canada participated in a roundtable discussion with Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Rick Larsen regarding the impacts to people and businesses in this region that might result from implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. Jim Williams, Director of US-VISIT, Department of Homeland Security and Frank Moss, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services, Department of State attended the event to hear the concerns particular to the region. November 16, 2009. David Davidson will serve as rapporteur at a conference hosted by Nextrans at Purdue University. The conference is titled "In Step, In Line, On Time: Regional Strategies for Trade, Security, and Mobility Challenges at the US/Canada Border."
November 20, 2009. David Davidson will speak in San Diego at the biennial ACSUS conference. He will discuss the efficacy of the FAST program at the Cascade Gateway commercial ports-of-entry.
October 27, 2009. David Davidson spoke in Winnipeg at a meeting of the Canada - U.S. Transportation Border Working Group. He presented results of a field study of commercial-vehicle operations at the Cascade Gateway commercial ports-of-entry.
September 14, 2009. David Davidson spoke in Washington, D.C., at a Canada Seminar held by the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research. His topic was economic and trade impacts associated with certain border policies.
August 9, 2009. Don Alper spoke to the Midwest Canada-Relations Committee at the Midwest Legislative Conference in Overland Park, Kansas. His presentation was titled "The Border Barometer: Assessing Border Performance and Enhancing the Binational Economy." Alper focused on issues such as trade flows, vehicle traffic and border insfrastructure.
June 12, 2009. David Davidson spoke at a meeting of the Canada-US Relations Committee of the Vancouver Board of Trade.
March 25, 2009. Don Alper spoke at a conference titled "Towards a Better Border: The United States and Canada," hosted by the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
March 17, 2009. David Davidson testified before the International Relations Subcommittee of the Washington State Senate in Olympia, WA. Mr. Davidson discussed border issues of current importance to the State of Washington.
March 12, 2009. David Davidson and Stacia Dreyer gave a presentation titled "Transboundary Management Efforts in the Bertrand Creek Watershed." Their talk was in conjunction with Whatcom County's annual Salmon Summit, held at the St. Luke's Community Health Education Center in Bellingham, Washington.
February 26, 2009. David Davidson spoke in Bellevue, Washington, at a conference titled "Challenges and Solutions at the Northern Border." His topic was the status of trusted-traveler and trusted-shipper programs in the Pacific Northwest. The conference was hosted by the University of Arizona's newly formed National Center for Border Security and Immigration, which is a university consortium providing research expertise to the Department of Homeland Security.
February 13, 2009. Don Alper spoke in Vancouver, B.C., at a conference of the Tourism Associations of B.C. His presentation was titled "Travel Patterns and Border Performance at the Cascade Gateway."
February 11, 2009. Don Alper spoke in Washington, D.C., at a conference titled "Cross Talk II: Building Common Security in North America." His presentation was titled "Time Spent at the Border and Usage of 'Trusted' Programs: Performance Measures for Indicating Progress." The conference was organized by the North American Center for Transborder Studies and was held at the Woodrow Wilson Center.
