Learn About Western's Brand

We Are Western.

Everyone has a role to play in maintaining and promoting the Western brand. Our collective efforts are what shape and grow our brand identity and how it's perceived by others. Whether you are recruiting for a new program or event, rolling out a marketing campaign, or updating content on a website, you’ll find the tools and guidance you need here.

Logos

The Western Washington University logo is the simplest and most recognizable representation of our identity. Learn about how to use our logos and identity marks.

Colors

Western’s vibrant brand colors reflect the Pacific Northwest’s geography and culture, with hues that harken to the ocean and the mountains. Learn how to use our colors.

Fonts

Western uses three typefaces: Fira Sans, Montserrat, and PT Serif. All three are free and open-source. Visit our typography page to learn more and download the fonts.

Accessibility is Everything

Accessibility in communications is the foundation of inclusivity, fostering a truly connected and equitable world. Anyone communicating on behalf of Western should be well-versed in accessibility practices.

Our Digital Accessibility guides provide resources that aid in creating content, building websites, printing materials and engaging in markets in a way that reaches a wide, diverse audience.

Our WebTech team also provides education across campus on how to use technology in a way that is welcoming to everyone. We are working hard to prevent and remove barriers across all our web platforms and communication efforts.

Check out the main Western Digital Accessibility site for an overview and training. For a deeper look, check out the guides for building accessible websites and creating accessible documents

Writing and Storytelling

Our writer's guide for writers was developed by University Communications to assist those writing on behalf of Western. The guide promotes clarity and consistency in official campus communications, both print and digital.

Promotion

Want to spread word about an event? Have a brand new program to promote? Need to recruit for a program? Learn how to effectively spread the word.

Web

Whether you need a homepage refresh or a complete architectural overhaul, access to reports, Drupal training, directory updates, or other technical assistance, we can help.

Social Media

Social networking, whether in-person or online, is the same thing we’ve been doing for more than a century at Western: engaging with our communities.

Photography

Sometimes it's better to show than to tell. Photos play an important role in our efforts to talk about ways that our students, faculty and staff make waves and bring about positive transformation in the world.

Videography

Some stories are best told in motion! Video is one of the most engaging ways to tell your story and reach your audiences.
