Climbing WallTired of the treadmill and the weight room? Want to get pumped? Climbing provides a full body workout that will challenge you both mentally and physically. The Student Recreation Center offers two 30-foot high climbing walls in addition to a 12-foot high freeform bouldering wall boasting a total of 3,300 square feet of climbing containing routes of varying difficulty.

Don’t know where to start? Stop by the wall and ask an attendant how you can begin climbing. Our experienced staff will orient you to the wall, explain the policies and procedures and answer any questions you may have about our classes and equipment rentals.

Climbing Wall Hours

During Summer Quarter (June 23 to September 22), the climbing wall is open during the following times:

  • Mondays: 6:30am - 7:00pm
  • Tuesdays: 11:00am - 7:00pm
  • Wednesdays: 6:30am - 7:00pm
  • Thursdays: 11:00am - 7:00pm
  • Fridays: 6:30am - 6:00pm
  • Saturdays: 11:00am - 4:00pm
  • Sundays: 11:00am - 4:00pm

Climbing Classes

Click here for a comprehensive listing of all the climbing classes we offer. During Fall Quarter, we are offering a variety of introductory classes on weekdays.

Early Climb Three Days a Week    New!

During Summer Quarter, we will now be offering the opportunity to climb early in the morning for three days a week! Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the summer from June 24 to September 23, the climbing wall will open at 6:30 a.m. instead of 11 a.m.!

Top Rope Tuesdays

Every Tuesday night during Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters we offer top rope climbing for the last two hours that the climbing wall is open, from 8-10pm. During this time we also offer free equipment rentals, so come join us!

Northwest Collegiate Climbing Competition

The Northwest Collegiate Climbing Competition (NC3) series has been put together in order to foster intercollegiate climbing, camaraderie and competition. From three universities, the series has grown to eight host universities for the 2015 season.

The competition was back at Western Washington University again when the Veni. Vidi. Ascendi. event was held at the Student Recreation Center climbing wall on February 7, 2015.
