The Wade King Student Recreation Center offers numerous opportunities for you to raise or keep your current fitness level.  Whether you want a one-on-one session with a personal trainer, to experience the many group fitness classes such as pilates, yoga, martial arts, or strength training, you will find many opportunities to maintain or increase your level of physical health and wellness at the Student Recreation Center.

The Student Recreation Center features two cardio workout areas with a wide array of equipment, two group fitness rooms and a three-lane indoor track on the second floor as well as a state-of-the art weight room on the first floor!


Spring Quarter 2015 Fitness Announcements

X Pass Group Fitness

The X Pass is a social and fun way to never get bored with your fitness routine. These group fitness classes allow participants to follow repetitive strength and cardio conditioning routines.

The X Pass provides flexibility, multiple options and unlimited access. All X Pass classes will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participating capacities are based on room size, the availability of equipment and instructor discretion.

The X Pass is good for any classes on the schedule posted below. Show your pass to the instructor prior to class, and have fun!

The cost for an X Pass for Spring Quarter is $45. Purchase yours at the Student Recreation Center front desk starting on Monday, April 6.

12:10 Fitness Express

For those with a busy schedule, we are offering special Fitness Express classes starting at 12:10pm and lasting up to 50 minutes. And best of all, these classes are absolutely free for our members! 


Drop-In Pass

If you are busy and can’t commit to a quarter-long group fitness schedule, then you can purchase a $5 drop-in pass. This is good for any of the X Pass group fitness classes.

Just purchase your pass at the Student Recreation Center front desk and show the receipt to your instructor!


Demo Week

At the start of each quarter, the Student Recreation Center holds a fitness class Demo Week. All classes are free during Demo Week! We don’t want you to buy a service you’ve never experienced, so come try out the classes we offer for free! Demo Week for Spring Quarter 2015 will take place April 6-12.

Remember, during this week all the classes will be very crowded, but please be patient as everyone is getting the opportunity to experience our programs. The second week of classes is always calmer.

By the second week of classes either you need to have purchased an Group X Pass and show it for admittance into all Group X Pass classes, or have purchased a $5 single-use drop-in pass.

Freshmen Fit in 15 Program

Fit in 15 is a new incentive program designed specifically for the incoming freshmen class! This program is implemented through a customer loyalty application that can be downloaded right to your smart phone, tablet or iPod. This app will allow you to track your fitness progress throughout the quarter, and participants will earn prizes for meeting certain goals!

  • Upon signing up (Silver): Free rally towel
  • 10 Rec Center visits (Gold): Free water bottle
  • 20 Rec Center visits (Platinum): Free Fit in 15 t-shirt (first 100 members)
  • 20 Rec Center visits and beyond: Attend one group fitness class for free each visit and receive discounts on Rec Center merchandise!

This program is available only to freshmen students. View the Fit in 15 flyer for information. Visit app.loyalblocks.com from your mobile device, tablet or wi-fi enabled iPod to download the app, and then select the "Fit in 15" loyalty club to join!


Free Lunchtime Fitness Classes

Lunchtime is a great time to visit the Student Recreation Center, because all our fitness classes around that time are absolutely free for our members thanks to our Fit Express program! Our lineup of free fitness classes for Spring Quarter will be announced shortly.


Zumba Classes

Among our wide array of group fitness classes, we are pleased to offer frequent Zumba classes at the Student Recreation Center. Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party.

Zumba Fitness classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students.

Instructional Class Policies

  • Lines will not be allowed to form outside the classrooms until 30 minutes prior to the start of class.
  • Please note that absolutely no refunds will be given at any time.
  • X Passes are non-transferable.

Personal Training

New Equipment & Classes at the Rec Center

New for the 2013-14 academic year, we have added a Synrgy360 training hub to the cardio workout area on the second floor of the Student Recreation Center. The Synrgy360 can help users of any fitness level achieve a variety of a goals, such as cardiovascular endurance, strength, coordination, agility and more! Exercise Equipment Orientations

If you are interested in finding out more about the Student Recreation Center's fitness equipment with a free orientation, please e-mail Ron.Arnold@wwu.edu.

Orientations are available by appointment only on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00pm to 9:00pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
