Description |
Students of Christina Keppie's 385 French Culture and Civilization class have been studying the culture
and identity of the Acadian people, descendants of North America's first colonials. This French community,
rather unknown in the Unisted States, has struggled for decades in trying to identify their place in the
world and their worth as citizens in a country that, despite being officially bilingual, has more often
than not ignored their rights for education and services in French.
Despite all their struggles, the Acadians are known for their love of nature, their readiness to laugh,
and their willingness to welcome with open arms.
On December 3rd, students will bring this culture to life with an evening of theater, poetry, and live
music, followed by a buffet of traditional Acadian food prepared by the students. The event is entirely
bilingual and we promose to open your eyes, minds, and hearts to the world of Acadia!
