Class of 2009
Major: Business Management and Communication
Steve decided to obtain an internship in order to gain experience before graduation and to have a job opportunity after graduation.
During his three-month internship with Sherwin Williams as an Operations Manager he ran the day-to-day operations and made sure the customers were satisfied. During one of the career fairs, Steve learned about a position open at Boeing. After being offered an interview, he did extensive research on the company by looking at current events, financial reports and competitors. He was offered a job at Boeing as a project manager upon graduation!
Steve feels his internship experience helped him prepare for the job market and gave him an upper hand over a lot of other applicants. His background in his major, as well as participation in sports and community-help programs, also made him a candidate for the Boeing job.
"The advice I would like to give to those entering their search now is start early…Also make sure to take advantage of every class you take, you never know how that subject will help you down the road. Most importantly get experience through internships, part-time work, or anything you can gain experience from."
