Q:

I have a yeast infection and I was wondering if I have sex with my boyfriend if anything can be transmitted to him?

A:

Yeast is a very universal organism, in our diets, on our skins, in our guts and yes, in the genital area. It usually doesn't overgrow and cause rash or vaginal discharge unless there are other factors happening--hormonal change, stress, pH balance change, bacterial changes, and metabolic changes.

The short answer is yes--sexual partners can exchange yeast organisms sexually but it happens all on its own (jock itch, vaginal yeast infections) without being sexually active.
