Q:

I have dandruff in my hair. However, I don't like using chemically based shampoos, and only buy natural products. Is there a natural way to get rid of dandruff so I don't have to use the dandruff shampoos? Also, what causes dandruff? How do you prevent it?

A:

Dandruff tends to be an inherited condition of the scalp with more rapid than average exfoliation (flaking) of the outer layer of skin, causing the tiny skin flakes that are so bothersome cosmetically. The tried and true dandruff shampoos tend to be the tar based shampoos, and are quite effective used just once a week. I'm unaware of any natural products that are as effective. It's one of those situations where you may have to compromise once in awhile to get relief of your symptoms.
