Q:

I've been on ortho-tricylen for the past 4+ years and everything has been normal. For the past 3 months, my periods are very weird. At the time of my period (right on schedule) I've been spotting (maybe using 1-2 tampons a day) until my fiancé and I have intercourse. Then I bleed heavily for about 20 minutes (only having intercourse 1 or 2 times while on my period). That's it....that's my period. Then, during "ovulation" I have very bad cramps, like on my period, but don't bleed. It lasts for about 5-6 days with severe bloating. What could be wrong?

A:

It is important that you have a full pelvic exam to make sure you do not have infections or some other kind of inflammation causing the abnormal bleeding.
