I am on Ortho Evra and I needed to pick up a new month of patches on the Friday that campus was closed due to snow. Campus was closed, so I was just going to start again on Monday and use back up contraception, but I got lazy and still have not picked them up. The date is 1/17 now. When I get my new patches, should I start ASAP or wait until I get my periods again and apply a new patch the first day of my period?

You should wait until your next period, and starting your next patches on the first day would be fine.
