Q:

How long after an exposure to the HIV virus would it take before it showed positive or negative on a test?

A:

It takes 3 months for the body to have adequate antibodies for the screening test to reliably pick up a positive result. We recommend having a baseline test at the point of concern and then a repeat test in 3 months.
