Q:

I was wondering what the effects of adderall are, both long term and short term. I was also wondering effects of mixing adderall and alcohol are.

A:

What you are asking, people have been doing research on and writing books about - any answer that I give will be barely touching the service. To answer your last question first - regarding mixing Adderall (and any of the stimulant medications) and Alcohol - DON'T!!! Alcohol is a depressing agent and lowers your seizure threshold. Any of the stimulant medications can interact with that lowered seizure threshold resulting in seizures! Also, the chemical interactions in each individual are extremely unpredictable....that person's brain chemistry, alcohol consumed, time frame, etc - UNPREDICTABLE!

If we look at the short term negative effects of the Adderall (or other stimulant medications): you might get a decrease in your appetite, some trouble sleeping, some nausea, dizziness, heart palpitations, headache, and change in blood pressure and pulse. If you happen to have a mood disorder, you could become manic. If you happen to have a motor or vocal tic (i.e. Tourette's Disorder), it could be made worse. We can't use these medicines in people who have advanced arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, and structural heart problems - it can lead to death. The short term positive effects are that you can focus significantly better and pass your classes and be able to stay in school, be able to communicate more easily with your friends and maintain a job.

The long term negative effects can be - psychosis, growth suppression, visual disturbances, death, as noted above, and the potential for drug abuse (for one's own use and for diversion). This is MUCH less likely with the longer acting prescriptions. The long term positive effects are: much lower divorce rate, much higher academic achievement, less addiction and substance abuse, far fewer automotive accidents and violations, far fewer work problems and much higher socio-economic status....this has all been shown to be true. A life that is much richer and fulfilling.

As I noted at the beginning - this is just a snipet of what many books are written about. I hope that it gives you, at least, a little idea.
