Q:

I have gotten two white bumps (not at the same time) around the outside of my vagina. The bumps are hard and when I squeeze them, the little white bump comes out and it's hard. I do not bleed or have any discharge other than that little white thing. I have HPV and haven't gotten any warts, but was wondering if maybe those are it? They go away after I squeeze the white stuff out and have only gotten two. I don't want them to spread if they are warts, but how can I know for sure?

A:

You are describing sebaceous inclusion cysts, usually a plugged hair follicle or gland that has a small amount of white cheesy sebum contained inside. These are not HPV and their main problem, other than the cosmetic issues, is that they can become infected with bacteria such as strep or staph and become quite enlarged and painful. It is best not to squeeze them as that can traumatize the tissue, making infection more likely. If you want them removed, they can be treated in the clinic, usually through a minor surgical procedure.
