Q:
How does birth control keep you protected through the
reminder pills? If you finish your period before you are done with the
reminder pills are you more at risk for pregnancy during those reminder
pills where you don't have your period?
A:
The
placebo pills for one week are not hormonally active at all, and allow you
to have a withdrawal menses bleed, similar to your own menstrual cycle when
your hormone levels are low. It does not matter if your menses finishes
before the inactive pills are done--that is quite typical and normal. As
long as you are taking a pill every day from your pill pack, your risk of
pregnancy is quite low (but never 0).
