Q:

I was wondering if Zoloft has been associated with painful intercourse? I have been having sex for the past year and a half and it still continues to be painful. Lube and taking our time helps but I still end up feeling sore, I also do not orgasm from intercourse but do from clitoral stimulation (I know that is normal and am not too concerned). I am on 150 ml of Zoloft, which I know can inhibit orgasm (though I don't see why it would only inhibit penetration orgasms) so I am wondering if it could possible also be causing my soreness? I have an IUD and have had a recent pelvic exam. Thank you!

A:

Zoloft should not be causing decreased lubrication as a direct drug side effect but it may be causing you to have less libido and sexual interest resulting in less natural lubrication. It would be important to bring this issue to your prescriber's attention with the consideration of a change in medication to see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, use lots of artificial lubrication.
