Q:

When is the best time of day to take the pill? I've been on the pill for 3 years and have noticed that I've been getting lazier and lazier with taking it. I've been trying to take it when I go to bed, but I've found that time often varies from about 11 pm to 1 am. Once or twice I will forget to take it because I'll fall asleep and then take it early in the morning around 6 or 7 am. Are their any times you would suggest for ease of remembering?

A:

A variance of a couple hours does not decrease the effectiveness of the contraceptive but can sometimes result in breakthrough spotting in women who are very sensitive to hormonal levels. It is best to connect taking the pill with something you do every day at a particular time, whether it is eating a particular meal, brushing your teeth, getting up or going to bed. You don't need to overly fret about this but try your best to be consistent.
