Q:

I'm a gay male in a committed, monogamous relationship. My boyfriend and I don't use condoms when having sex. Recently, I noticed a few tiny bumps right around the opening to my anus. Should I be checked out? is this herpes or warts or something?

They aren't painful or itchy or anything, and I'm not sure how long they've been there, but just noticed them recently.

A:

It is unlikely these are herpes as they would be painful.

They could be warts or small viral bumps called molluscum contagiosum, both of which are easily transmitted with skin to skin contact during sex, even with condom use.

An STD screening would be wise, including an examination of these bumps to give you the best diagnosis and treatment options.
