Q:
I always feel tired. Not physically tired, but mentally drained. I know that exercising would help, but are there any other things I can do to feel less foggy. I am trying ginkgo biloba. I always get 8 hours of sleep. Are there any foods that will help gain mental energy.
A:
You are describing two different symptoms--a mental "fogginess" and a mental "fatigue". This can be due to physical illness such as blood sugar imbalance or anemia, or it could be from depression or other mental health concerns.
A good physical exam, lab work and some screening tests for depression would be important, as well as review of your family history.
You are correct that regular exercise and a good diet are key to improving mental fitness, but your diagnosis is not clear without further evaluation.
