Q:
So I have a weird question. For the past couple of years, sometimes when I close my eyes and sit, I feel upside down, or that I am lying back, or like I'm underwater. What is that? Is that normal. I mean I don't close my eyes and sit everyday, but when I do, after about a minute of having them closed, I feel really weird, like I am turning circles underwater or something. Why and what is that?
A:
This is disturbance of the middle ear labyrinth which, without visual cues, can give you a sensation of being in a different position, a kind of vertigo, which is what this sounds most similar to. If it is not happening at any other time, and doesn't result in nausea or persistent disorientation, then it is unlikely something to worry about, but if it starts to cause spinning sensations, then it is time to have a neurologist check you out.
