Q:
I'm concerned because I'm constantly thirsty and urinate every hour. I've tried cutting back on my water intake and I don't eat a lot of salt or sugar but I remain thirsty. I don't drink caffeine and I know I don't have a UTI because I've had them in the past and it doesn't hurt when I urinate. My pee is not cloudy or bloody and looks normal. I've had this problem since I was 16 and returned from Thailand on exchange. My weight stays relatively the same and I haven't noticed a significant increase or decrease. I don't think I'm at risk for diabetes because it doesn't run in my family and I'm a normal weight.
ALSO- I'm concerned because I get excruciatingly bad headaches after I work out, especially if I go running. I know it's not dehydration. I ran 3 miles a week ago in the morning and my head hurt until the middle of the next day.
A:
Your symptoms definitely warrant an evaluation to check your blood sugar and evaluate your headaches. Your thirstiness, frequent urination and exertional headaches may all be connected and it would be important to get some basic metabolic screening done.
