Q:
I am sexually active and have been having regular sex for the past 7ish months and have had no problems during it. But the past two times I have bled during sex and the most recent time the blood was bright red. It doesn't hurt and I only realize it when we are done, and I don't bleed any more after. My period was over a week ago, and my last pap (which was in July) was normal. What could be causing this?
A:
Bleeding after intercourse can be a sign of infection of the cervix, such as chlamydia or gonorrhea, or less likely, early pregnancy. That means it is best to be checked to see if a source of the bleeding can be determined on exam or testing.
