Q:
I have been sick for the last couple of weeks and I am finally recovering. The past two weeks I had a fever that was accompanied by vomiting, a sore throat, and a cough that was accompanied by phlegm. I'm concerned because I am a singer. I have had only about 50% of my voice for the last four days, though it is getting better everyday. What can I do to hasten the recovery process? Also, I have two symmetrical bumps on my neck that seem to be just below the lymph nodes. They seem to be pretty tough and on the same tract as my arteries. Is this simply swollen glands from the flu? I tested negative for strep a week ago so I'm not sure what to think. Thanks so much for your time.
A:
Since you've had persistent fever and a productive cough, along with the lymph nodes, you should come in to clinic to have your lungs checked and possibly do a mononucleosis test. Persistent fevers definitely need evaluation.
