Q:
Recently my heart has started having palpaltations every so often. I'm not sure how long they last. When I'm experiencing them I can feel them once every ten to thirty seconds. Is this something I should have looked at?
A:
Any time you are having irregular or rapid heart beats for no apparent reason, it is wise to have it checked out. Premature ventricular beats are very common, happen all the time in normal healthy hearts, and tend to occur with stress, fatigue, increased caffeine or alcohol use. However, without an EKG to actually look at the palpitation electrically, it is impossible to know what you are experiencing.
We'd be able to diagnose your palpitations if you have them while in clinic. If not, then a portable monitor can be arranged through our local cardiologists.
