Q:
I got hurt and have a rip on the side of my mouth, it's more like a small hole, so I can barely eat and drink because it stretches out the scab. I was wondering if I can let it self-heal or should I go get it stitched up? And if I go to the Health Center to get it stitched up how much would it cost?
A:
Stitches generally need to be placed within 12 hours of an injury or the risk of infection by closing the wound goes up. Especially around the mouth, which is full of bacteria, this risk is high, so you will need to let it heal itself. It isn't clear from your question whether this is inside or outside the mouth or on the lips. If it is continuing to bother you next week when we open up, we can take a look.
