Q:
The glands around the bottom of my right ear and down near my tonsil on my jaw have been swollen for about a week now. The swelling has gotten progressively worse, and it hurts to chew sometimes and foods with strong flavors send sharp pain throughout these glands. I know that glands will swell when trying to fight an infection, but I'm wondering if I should go in for a check up to make sure it isn't something worse. What are your thoughts?
A:
Yes, we should see you. These could be salivary glands that are irritated and enlarged, or lymph nodes that are reacting to an infection.
