Q:
I missed my birth control pill 2 days in a row during the second out of the three active weeks. So I did what the directions said and I took two that day that I remembered and two the next day, so I was ready to go with the normal one a day for that third day. Ever since then, I've had my period and now it's been a week and a half and I've still had it (it normally lasts for about 4 days for me). It finally came to a kind of end this morning, and then tonight I went to the restroom and I have it full blow like it's the first day again! (Today was the first day of my placebo pills. Maybe it would help to draw out the dates or something... Hopefully this isn't too confusing..)
Is this normal to be bleeding for this long? I'm assuming that it'll keep going for my normal amount of period time now, so by the time that ends, it'll have been at least two + weeks. Would you advise me to go in and ask someone at the Health Center? I've missed pills before and I don't think this has ever happened. I figured that since I got my period throughout the time I wasn't supposed to, that I wouldn't get it again once I was supposed to get it...
Thank you! You guys are awesome.
A:
This is not unusual to bleed after missing pills because your uterine lining becomes unstable with the lack of hormone, and then to bleed again when you are on your placebo pills. As there is increased risk of pregnancy with a cycle of missed pills, you would be wise to get pregnancy tested at the end of your placebo pills (which would be accurate for detecting at least a 10-14 day conception. If you don't have a normal cycle next month, then get pregnancy tested one more time in December.
