Q:
In the past day I developed cold-like symptoms including a stuffy nose and head congestion. My throat doesn't really hurt, but I have white spots on my tonsils. I also feel extremely tired.
I know that I am very susceptible to strep throat (I have had it 3-4 times before) and whites spots on the tonsils are one of the symptoms, but it seems weird that I don't have a sore throat.
Should I come in and be tested for strep? Or just wait for it to go away on its own.
A:
It is possible to have strep throat without having a sore throat and it is possible to have white spots on your tonsils without it being strep throat, from viral tonsillitis. Since you are fatigued as well as congested, it is wise to come in to get tested for strep and if symptoms persist, you should also have a mononucleosis test.
