Q:
Hello,
My roommates and I have been noticing lately that our fourth roommate has been stealing our food at night. Noticeable amounts of food have gone "missing". She stays in her room for most of the day until nighttime when everyone else has gone to bed (which is when we think she eats and eats). She is a very thin girl and works out and exercises almost to the point of concern. We are very concerned and are wondering how we should go about addressing this to her. Do you have any suggestions? That would be great. Thank you!
A:
It is likely she is bulimic and letting her know you are concerned about her health and want to help her seek help is appropriate. You can let her know the Counseling Center can certainly evaluate eating issues, and can help direct her to therapy. You could offer to support her by going with her if she is willing.
It is something that needs caring confrontation, and letting her know you are concerned is the first step.
