Q:
I got one Depo Provera shot, and then started taking another birth control pill after not getting the second shot. After about two months, I stopped using the pill. Since then, I have been getting yeast infections on and off, and was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis. I have gotten two pelvic exams this year, and I'm not sure if my insurance will cover another one, but I would like to get one since I have been feeling like the symptoms I had when I was diagnosed with BV have come back.
The yeast infections first started when I started birth control pills over a year ago. I discontinued the Depo Provera shot because of constant spotting and inconsistent periods. I had periods when I was on the pill, but when I stopped taking them, I got one regular period at the end of August, and in the middle of September, I started bleeding lightly. Since then, I have bled almost every day, and suffered with what is thought to be yeast.
Since I am still bleeding almost everyday, and don't know when I won't have any bleeding, will I be able to get an exam to be checked for BV or yeast, as well as anything else that could be wrong? I was checked for STD's, and they were all negative.
A:
You definitely need to consult with one of our women's health practitioners and there is no cost for a pelvic exam, just any labs that are done to sort out what is going on. You can discuss all these symptoms with the health care provider.
