Q:
I was diagnosed with a uterine fibroid about a year ago, and I am feeling concerned that it might be causing me problems related to my past birth control methods. As I was not given any details about the fibroid, I was wondering if ultrasound or other procedures used to diagnose fibroids are available at the student health center.
A:
We do not have ultrasound capability at the Student Health Center but refer our patients to Mount Baker Imaging for that kind of study. If you have had a previous ultrasound, we can request that study report and review that with you as it probably does not need to be repeated.
A uterine fibroid is common and does not interfere with most contraceptive methods except possibly an intrauterine device. To review information about uterine fibroids and your own situation, you are welcome to make an appointment with one of our women’s health practitioners.
