Q:
Recently I have been sick with one of the colds going around campus. It started with a head cold (stuffy/runny nose) then became a wicked bad sore throat. While sick I took Nyquil/Dayquil and acetaminophen as needed, probably more than the recommended.
My cold/sore throat is gone now but have been having a severe sharp pain in my check when I swallow most food or liquids. I have been feeling run down due to heavy school/work loads.
I am wondering if I can safely ignore this pain or if I should come into the clinic to get it checked out?
A:
It is possible you have an inflamed or obstructed parotid gland after your virus--the clue being pain when you have something in your mouth that you are eating or drinking. It is best to check it out in the clinic.
