Q:
I have a cold and I have been coughing, but at night it is way worse and it is keeping me up. Is there anything I can do to help me get some sleep?
A:
We can assess you in clinic to determine whether you have a deeper infection that necessitates antibiotics, but most of the time the night time cough is irritation from drainage from the upper respiratory tract. A cough suppressant, either over the counter, like robitussin or Nyquil, can help, or a prescription cough suppressant from our clinic can assist in helping quiet the cough at night.
